Doug Drown celebrates his victory at Wayne County Speedway.
What won the race: Polesitter Doug Drown of Wooster, Ohio, took the lead on lap 18 and paced the final eight circuits at Wayne County Speedway on Saturday, winning the eighth annual Hans and Don Gross Memorial, collecting $3,000. The victory is the first of Drown's career with the Renegades of Dirt Late Model Tour.
Quotable: “It’s been more than a year since we’ve won, which has been a long time for us,” Drown said. “But we have kept digging, and now we are just figuring out how to win again. We’ve been out and about doing other things and haven’t raced much.”
Key notes: After leading the first 17 laps from the outside front-row, J.R. Gentry of Wooster, Ohio, settled for the runner-up position, 1.282 seconds behind Drown. ... Inheriting third place on the lap-26 restart, Todd Brennan of Zanesville, Ohio, completed the podium. ... Wayne County division points leader Ryan Markham of Ashland, Ohio, was running as high as second place on lap 21 before retiring on lap 25 as smoke spewed from his car; he finished eighth. ... Caiden Black of New Concord, Ohio, was running as high as fourth on lap 22 before also retiring on lap 25, finishing 10th. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by three cautions and lasted 19 minutes, with six competitors completing 30 laps.
