Shane Clanton steers toward his 47th career WoO victory.
What won the race: Fending off series points leader Dennis Erb Jr., pole-starting Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., led 40 laps Friday at River Cities Speedway for his first World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series victory since rejoining the circuit this spring. Clanton took the checkers 0.590 of a second ahead of Erb and notched his 47th career tour victory.
Quotable: “This is big to get momentum going. We've been running good last month and a half, so to get a win here ... I love this place. It's one of the (tracks) on the schedule that I really like coming to, so I’m glad we're getting another win here."
Key notes: Clanton also won at River Cities in 2017. ... Clanton's Skyline Motorsports teammate Tyler Bruening finished fourth after running third most of the way (Mike Marlar took the position late). ... The feature was slowed by two cautions (Josh Richards spun in turn three on lap 21; 13th-running Mike Greseth slid over the turn-four banking on lap 30). ... Seventeen drivers completed 40 laps. ... WoO ended a lengthy break (since a June 26 event in Jacksonville, Ill.) with the first of three races in the Upper Midwest. ... The Grand Forks, N.D., track hosted the tour for the 15th time.
On the move: Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, started 23rd and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Clanton’s Skyline Motorsports Capital Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Skyline Materials, Bennett Explosives, Super K Express, Brown Heavy Equipment, Lucas Products, Truck County, Bruening Rock Products, Olson Explosives, Freeman Plumbing, Hoosier Racing Tire and VP Racing Fuels.
