Bobby Pierce celebrates his 43rd career series victory.
What won the race: Series points leader Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., slid under race-long leader Max Blair in turn two on the 13th lap and led the rest of Wednesday's 40-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals at Adams County Speedway. The fifth-starting Pierce cruised to the checkers 1.133 seconds ahead of Shannon Babb to earn $5,000 and his series-leading third victory of 2022.
Quotable: “A lot of good racetracks (are) coming up," Pierce said. "A lot of money to be won, so hopefully we’re there."
Key notes: Bobby Pierce won his 43rd career series victory and snapped the two-race winning streak of Brian Shirley, who finished fifth. ... He also won at Quincy in 2016. ... The winners of the 50-50 drawing donated their $550 winnings the victorious Pierce. ... Pole-starting McKay Wenger faded to finish 10th. ... Frank Heckenast Jr. survived a folded-under nosepiece to finish eighth. ... Three cautions slowed the action, including for Blaze Burwell's lap-21 spin in turn four. ... The first yellow dropped for Doug Tye's lap-20 backstretch spin after contact from second-running Max Blair; the final caution appeared for a slowing Garrett Smith on lap 38 .... Fourteen cars finished 40 laps. ... Rusty Schlenk broke an engine in hot laps and scratched for the night. ... Adams County (formerly Quincy Raceway) hosted the tour for the 11th time. ... The 37 Super Late Models matched the track's best-ever series car count (also achieved in 2013).
On the move: Frank Heckenast Jr. of Frankfort, Ill., started 20th and finished eighth.
