Adding twice-a-month Sunday race programs in 2027, Eagle (Neb.) Raceway next season plans to award a track championship for a regular IMCA Late Model division.

The Sunday events, with IMCA Late Models and sport compacts in competition along with a rotating other divisions, will run twice monthly in four-division programs.

The third-mile oval, which hasn’t hosted a regular Late Model division for more than 25 years, hosted IMCA Late Models on Memorial Day weekend, drawing 21 cars with Jon Plowman winning the night’s feature.

"We have been asked a lot by drivers and fans to add the IMCA Late Models and IMCA sport compacts to some of our weekly events,” Eagle promoter Racine Thompson said in an Aug. 27 press release. “Obviously, with our stellar car counts on Saturdays, it is near impossible to do without dropping classes on certain nights.

"We have a good thing going with our Saturday night events, and adding extra classes wouldn't work. After the Memorial Madness event that we hosted on a Sunday this season, an idea popped in my head. Why don't we add a few Sundays to the schedule? I contacted IMCA and here we are. It's worth a shot to try it.”

The track plans to run eight shows to meet IMCA track title requirements, using rain dates if necessary to hit the eight-race count. Eagle makes the fifth Nebraska track hosting a regular IMCA Late Model division.

No changes are planned for Eagle’s Saturday’s programs but any IMCA-sanctioned division that runs Sunday other than Late Models or sport compacts won’t be competing for track points.
