With Garrett Alberson unable to compete while recovering from various facial injuries, Roberts Motorsports early this morning announced he won’t enter this weekend’s Ace Doran Topless 100 on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark.

Alberson’s recovery has included repeated followup appointments at a Cincinnati, Ohio, hospital that preventing his return to the driver’s seat, the team’s statement said.

The 37-year-old Las Cruces, N.M., racer suffered serious injuries including facial fractures, a broken nose and a laceration above his left eye when his helmet was struck by an object during Aug. 8’s Sunoco North-South 100 at Florence Speedway in Union, Ky. He's been struggling with blurry vision.

In the overnight post, Alberson's wife Dani thanked series officials and competitors for assistance during a trying time, as well as supporters who have purchased team merchandise and sent prayers.

“We’ll be back when we can and it’s safe,” she wrote. “It was a heartbreaking kind of sad to watch the Lucas trucks get on the road without us.”

Alberson, seventh in Lucas Oil Series points, will be eligible for hardship points provided series regulars vote to approve him receiving 125 points per missed points events.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was established by friends, family and racers to support the Alberson family.
