Citing financial and personal issues, the Weisinger family announced Wednesday that 2026 would be its lone season promoting Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa.

The family that took over the track in November will end the season Aug. 21 with Season Championship Night at the 3/8-mile oval.

“This season has brought challenges both financially and personally, as health concerns have made the demands of operating the speedway increasingly difficult,” the family said in a statement on the track’s Facebook page. “After giving so much of ourselves to the track, we feel the time has come for our family to step away.”

Among the family’s biggest changes at the southeastern Iowa oval was shifting racing back to Friday nights and returning to IMCA

sanctioning for the Late Model division. Lee County drew 29 Late Model competitors for seven completed events with points leader Tommy Elston of Keokuk, Iowa, the winningest driver with three victories.

The Weisingers thanked all the competitors, sponsors, supporters, employees and spectators.

“There have been great nights, difficult nights, long hours, unforgettable races, and countless memories made along the way,” the statement said. “We are proud of what we have accomplished and thankful for everyone who has been a part of it. While closing this chapter is bittersweet, we know it is the right decision for our family.”
