Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., was released from a Cincinnati, Ohio-area hospital late this morning after suffering facial injuries when he was apparently struck by an object during Saturday’s Sunoco North-South 100 at Florence Speedway.

According to an afternoon update from Alberson’s wife Dani on the Roberts Motorsports Facebook page, the 37-year-old driver suffered a broken nose, multiple facial fractures and a laceration above his eye.

Alberson, one of six heat race winners, was running seventh for a lap-61 restart when his car stopped atop the second turn. Alberson climbed from his car with his helmet on and quickly fell to his knees alongside his car. He was attended by medical responders and taken to the hospital. He’s recovering at his Colona, Ill., home.

“The docs did a good job taking care of him,” Dani wrote. “He’s home and recovering, but he’s sensitive to light and won’t be responding to texts anytime soon, although I’ve read them to him as they’ve come in.”

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series director Rick Schwallie was among supporters remaining with the family at the hospital overnight.

The Lucas Oil Series returns to action Friday and Saturday at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark., for the Topless 100, but Alberson’s status for the weekend is unknown.

“We’ll be back soon,” Alberson’s update concluded.
