Sale signals end for Mountain View oval
Mountain View Raceway in Spring City, Tenn., which operated from 2020-25 following a seven-year closure, has been sold and will no longer be operated as a racetrack, according to a report from Inside Circle Track.
Co-owner Susan Hampton announced in late December the East Tennessee oval between Rockwood and Dayton was listed for $850,000 in hopes of finding a buyer who would continue racing operations at the quarter-mile oval, but an auction company has purchased the property, according to the report. Hampton told Inside Circle Track is “breaks our hearts” that no buyer was found to continue racing.
The track operated as Spring City Raceway through 2013 and Kelvin and Susan Hampton purchased and underwent a three-year, $200,000 renovation before reopening it in 2020, primarily running it with Limited Late Models as the headline division.
“We bought a dump and took three years to rebuild,” Hampton told DirtonDirt when the track was listed for sale. The Hamptons operated it for four seasons, Susan Hampton operated it herself in 2024 and racer Jesse Lowe took over promotions in 2025 and continued hosting regular-season events and a handful of Late Model-style tours.
“This last season was the best it had, but it is taking a toll on me physically and mentally,” Hampton said earlier this winter, adding that the facility had the potential of being the “the best track around.”
In recent seasons, the Rhea County track hosted Super Late Model events for the Southern All Stars, Workin’ Man tour and Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series. Jason Manley of Loudon, Tenn., captured 2025’s Limited Late Model championship.
