Friendship sprinkling in Super Late Models
Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C., this evening announced plans to add up to a half-dozen unsanctioned Super Late Model events to the 25-race schedule of the 4/10-mile oval recently purchased by Chuck Melton. Dates weren’t announced and purses will be announced next week at the track that hasn’t regularly run a Super Late Model division since 2008.
The Super Late Model events are in addition to March 28 and July 18 events on the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series. The Super Late Models will largely follow Carolina Clash rules. See the track’s Facebook page for details. Bonuses will go to the highest finishing drivers using Limited engines or CT 525 engines.
The track’s schedule, which runs from Feb. 25-Nov. 21, includes frequent Limited Late Model, 604 Crate Late Model and 502 Crate Late Model events. Among changes at the track was the closing of the previous track entrance in turn two (pictured).
• Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Ill., also announced it will run weekly Super Late Models under new promoters Jacob and Lisa Denney. Denney’s father Morey and brother Brad have spent a combined dozens of seasons promoting the track that was guided by Tim Neidig the past two years. Spoon River will also run an unsanctioned Crate Late Model division among weekly classes.
