Seawrights acquire chassis brand
Fort Payne, Ala.-based Seawright Motorsports has acquired Category 5 Race Cars with plans to establish a house-car program while rebranding the car with the Mach X Chassis name.
The 2-year-old chassis founded in 2024 by driver Stormy Scott and Jason Durham will continue production at Bruce Nunnally’s Brucebuilt Performance in Knoxville, Tenn., with brothers Sam and J.T. Seawright receiving support from their father, Ron, and Troy Baird, a partner in Sam’s racing team.
Sam Seawright, a regular on the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series, plans to debut a brand new Mach X on Friday at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn., on the Schaeffer's Spring Nationals circuit.
“This has always been a goal of mine,” J.T. Seawright said. “With Sam focused on traveling and racing, I’ll be managing the day-to-day operations at our Alabama shop in Eastaboga. Right now, our primary focus is developing the house car that Sam will drive. Once we get it dialed in, we plan to begin taking customer orders and building chassis for other teams.”
The Seawrights said they’ll provide parts and support to previous Category 5 customers.
Correction: Fixes day of I-75 event to Friday sted Saturday.
