Doubling up in awards at DIRTcar's 39th annual awards banquet in Springfield, Ill., Spoon River Speedway's Brad Denney landed Promoter of the Year Honors along with the prestigious Bob Memmer Award, which pays tribute to the late United Midwestern Promoters founder for excellence in motorsports.

Denney's acceptance of the Memmer Award left him "kind of speechless" as he joined his father, former promoter of Banner, Ill.'s Spoon River oval, as a previous winner of the award (2019).

“Promoter is a hard job. I believe it is. It’s easier for some. I took over for my dad in 2009, and this is my 14th or 15th year," Denney said. "I believe I told dad; I probably wouldn’t do it, but I believe this could be my last year. I don’t know who’s going to take over, but we’ll find somebody, and with my luck, I’ll be stuck doing it still.”

DIRTcar honored champions in nine divisions including absent Late Model champion Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., and Crate Late Model champion Jose Parga of New Berlin, Ill.

Among other awards, Charleston (Ill.) Speedway was named Track of the Year with owner-promoter Sonny Ross accepting the award.

“Everything I thought I knew about running a racetrack was proven false,” Ross said. “We’ve made some mistakes, but we’ve learned from them. We’ve got a lot of great fans and some awesome race car drivers. So I’m really proud of the place and proud of what we’ve been able to do.” — DIRTcar Racing
