Yankee Classic shifting to Davenport
The Yankee Dirt Track Classic will be run in 2022 after all. The 45th version of the race, traditionally run at 300 Raceway in Farley, Iowa, will temporarily shift to Davenport (Iowa) Speedway after promoters at 300 Raceway announced last month it wouldn't run the event because of staffing issues, tire shortages and inflation.
Ricky Kay of K Promotions on Sunday announced that Davenport is "borrowing" Iowa's longest-running Dirt Late Model event with plans for it to return to Farley next season.
The quarter-mile oval's Sept. 24 event, already on the schedule for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series and Hoker Trucking series, will serve as the Yankee. The purse has been increased to $6,045-to-win (up from $5,000) and additional action is scheduled for Sept. 23.
Sept. 23's three-division program includes a $1,045-to-win event for IMCA Late Models and practice for all divisions. Sept. 24's five-division program is topped by the Late Model feature. Pits open at 4 p.m. both nights with grandstands opening at 5 and hot laps at 6:30 p.m. General admission is $15 on opening night and $22 for the finale (with a $2 discount for agricultural attire).
