Hart County (Ga.) Sheriff Mike Cleveland told WYFF-TV that one spectator was dead and two others injured Saturday night at Hartwell Motor Speedway after a race car entered a pit area.

Few details were known but several spectators were struck by the car and one man was dead, the sheriff said. He was later identified as 58-year-old Paul Ballenger of Royston, Ga.

A person in their 30s was taken to AnMed Health Hospital in Anderson County, S.C., and a 9-year-old taken by ambulance to the Prisma Health Greenville (S.C.) Memorial Hospital, according to the report.

The identities of the injured parties weren't revealed.
