Hall of Fame auction set for Saturday

Trophies donated from racing legend Rodney Combs, along with selected memorabilia from drivers like Scott Bloomquist, Josh Richards, Brandon Sheppard and Bobby Pierce, are just a smattering of the items up for grabs as the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame prepares for its annual auction. | Complete North-South coverage

The fund-raiser is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Hall of Fame building located just outside of turn four at Florence Speedway in Union, Ky. Monies from the auction go to fund the Hall, which holds its annual induction ceremony each year in conjunction with the North-South 100. Officials are in the process of trying to construct a new building to house the thousands of items donated through the years. The upcoming auction is part of that effort.

“We have really been working hard to try and put together the funding we need to get going with our new building. But it has been slow going,” said Gerald Newton, National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame president. “We have certainly had some folks step up and help us, but we are still well short of where we need to be.”

Newton added that he expects this year’s auction to be “the largest in the history of the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame.”

“I have some trophies that Rodney Combs has donated … including the one he received for winning the 1991 North-South 100,” said Newton.

Other items on the auction block include ticket packages from some of the sport’s premiere events such as the World 100, the Dream, the Gateway Dirt Nationals and the Wild West Shootout, as well as items donated from drivers including Bloomquist, Richards, Sheppard, Pierce, Earl Pearson, Jr., Rick Eckert, Ronnie Johnson, Darrell Lanigan, Don O’Neal, Brandon Overton, Ahnna Parkhurst, Dale McDowell, Ross Bailes, Jason Welshan, Tyler Millwood, Mike Marlar and more.

Bidders should arrive early to register to bid. No bids can be accepted without a bidder number.

The NDLMHoF also accepts cash and auction items for donation. All donations are tax deductible. The NDLMHoF is a 501-C3 non-profit organization. For additional information or to find out how to donate, visit www.ndlmhof.com or call (317) 500-1083.

Correction: Fixes Rodney Combs as providing trophies instead of Jeff Purvis.
