MERIDIAN, Miss. (March 16) — Pole-starting Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., kept rolling Saturday at Whynot Motorsports Park with a victory in the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series opener.

McCool, fresh off a $10,000 victory last weekend at ArkLaTex Speedway’s unsanctioned Pelican 100, earned $2,500 in outrunning former series champion Chris Wall of Springfield, La., who started sixth. | Slideshow

B.J. Robinson of Blanchard, La., finished third with 10th-starting Chad Thrash of Meridian and eighth-starting Rick Rickman of Columbus, Miss., rounding out the top five in the Whynot season opener that served as a tuneup for March 23's first-ever World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Whynot.

Outside front-row starter Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of Northport, Ala., was 18th and reigning MSCCS champion Scott Dedwylder of Vossburg, Miss., was 20th in the 22-car feature field.

Notes: McCool pilots a Victory Circle Race Car from Billy Moyer’s shop with a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsorship from McCool Logging, Southern Belle, Henderson Motorsports, MSR Mafia and Good Hope. ... McCool has 10 career MSCCS victories, sixth on the all-time list. ... His previous series victory came in last year's season finale at Greenville (MIss.) Speedway; he had a series-best four victories in 2012. ... Among drivers failing to make the main event: Tom Maddox, Chris Smith, Cliff Williams, Craig Turan, Monte Skinner, Kody Barber and Chris Hoomes. ...
