WINCHESTER, Va. (Sept. 20) — Kenny Moreland entered September without a single 2013 victory. Suddenly he’s got a three-race winning streak.

The 24-year-old driver from Waldorf, Md., notched his third straight victory Friday at Winchester Speedway to pick up $2,500 on the exciting opening night of the Winchester 200 weekend. The polesitting Moreland won a lead-swapping duel with hometown driver J.T. Spence, then held off a late charge from Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., amid traffic in the closing laps.

Covert settled for second with Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, Pa., in third in the 35-lap feature. Spence and Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, Pa., rounded out the top-five finishers in the unsanctioned affair.

The race was made up of the top 24 of 33 qualifiers Friday. Heat races were also run pointing to Saturday night’s $8,000-to-win event with Covert, Spence and Satterlee winning prelims.

Notes: Moreland’s Custom-powered Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Moreland Racing, Denison Landscaping & Nursery, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Joe’s Fabrication and Brinn Transmissions. ... The weekend’s racing is sponsored by Malloy Ford. ... Jared Miley of South Park, Pa., spun and tagged the wall on the third lap to draw the feature's only caution. ...
