Smith gets first NCRA victory at McCool Junction
McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (May 28) — Polesitter Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis., raced to his first National Championship Racing Association DIRTcar Series victory Saturday at Junction Motor Speedway. Smith earned $2,500 at the 3/8-mile oval in outrunning Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Jason Rauen of Farley, Iowa, was third followed by a pair of Nebraska drivers, Corey Zeitner of Omaha and Al Humphrey of Giltner.
Notes: Smith's Bloomquist Race Car has a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsorship from Big Red Motorsports, Mid-States Equipment Hydraulics and Michaeletz Trucking. ... Smith and Simpson were among drivers who had subpar outings in preliminaries at the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Dart Show-Me 100 a day earlier in Wheatland, Mo. ... Smith's victory was his first since an O'Reilly All Star victory Sept. 4 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. ... The NCRA event drew 37 cars. ... Among drivers failing to make the main event: Jase Kaser, Scott Koskovich and Steve Kempt. ... After Sunday's Alphabet Soup Classic at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., NCRA competitors take a three-week break until Kansas action June 18-19 at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta and 81 Speedway near Wichita.
