Boone Speedway

Most wins at Boone for first Deery victory

May 26, 2009, 6:33 am
From series reports

BOONE, Iowa (May 25) — Josh Most races at Boone Speedway only a few times a year, but the 24-year-old Red Oak, Iowa driver must consider it one of his favorite tracks. Most won for the first time in his Deery Brothers Summer Series career on Memorial Day, topping the main event for IMCA Late Models at Boone and earning $2,000. He’d run second in the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals Deery feature last September.

Two other drivers making their first tour appearances of 2009 followed Most to the checkers. Polesitter Jason Hahne of Webster City, Iowa, was a series career-best second while Craig Roberts of Des Moines, Iowa, matched his career-best finish in third. Nineteenth-starting Todd Cooney of Des Moines was fourth and 14th-starting Jeff Aikey of Waterloo, Iowa, was fifth in taking sole possession of the point lead.

Hahne led the first half of the 40-lapper, with the outside row one starting Roberts close behind much of that distance. Most was up to third when the caution flag came out on lap 21. He went to a higher line to pass Roberts and Hahne, and led the rest of the way.

Notes: Most is sponsored by T-A- Grafix, Nichols Storage, Trent and Audrey Kraus, Most Snow Removal, Belt GM, Stuart & Stuart and Most Trucking. ... Fourth-place finisher Todd Cooney started 19th, then had to restart near the tail after getting caught up in an eight-car pileup. He came up through the field again for a top-five finish. ... Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., who entered the race tied for the points lead with Aikey, finished ninth. ... The eight-car pileup Cooney was part of eliminated Rob Toland, Jay Johnson, Tyler Bruening and Matt Strassheim. ... Next up for the Deery Brothers Summer Series is June 16-17 action at Cresco (Iowa) Speedway and Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa.
