Russell Erwin celebrates his third Carolina Clash victory at County Line.
What won the race: Fending off a late surge by Michael Rouse, polesitter Russell Erwin of Beaverdam, Va., led all 35 laps of Saturday's Coltman Farms Racing Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series feature at County Line Raceway. Erwin beat Rouse by 0.481 of a second for the $5,000 payday, his second Clash victory this season and third of his career, all of them coming at County Line.
Key notes: Erwin enjoyed his largest lead (3.912 seconds) on the 23rd lap before third-starting Michael Rouse closed the gap as they raced among lapped traffic in the late going, cutting Erwin's advantage to less than a half-second at the checkers. ... Erwin adds to Carolina Clash victories there on Sept. 16, 2023, and March 7's Spring Sizzler, each worth $5,000. ... It's his 11th career County Line special going back to May of 2014, including a $5,000 payday in March 21's Mark Batten Memorial in local unsanctioned Limiteds, combining for more than $46,000 in race winnings over that span. ... Two-time and reigning Clash champ Ben Watkins held third the entire distance. ... Cy Nelms Jr. and Willie Milliken both slipped by second-starting Austin Holcombe on the sixth lap, the only green-flag passes within the top five; Holcombe settled for sixth. ... Fourth-starting Donovan Jackson appeared to be eliminated in one of the two yellow flags that slowed the racing action before a lap was completed; Jackson was credited with 19th as the race's first retiree. ... All 35 laps were then completed without further incident. ... The race lasted 16 minutes with 12 starters completing the distance and 16 running at the finish.
