What won the race: Finding a way to sneak around the outside of Nick Hoffman for the lead amid slower traffic on lap 36, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., emerged victorious in Saturday night’s 50-lap Billy Clanton Classic at Senoia Raceway. The two-time and defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion stuck to the rubbered inside lane the rest of the way to beat Ashton Winger by 0.244 of a second for his fourth win of the season on the national tour and a $20,000 payday.

Quotable: “Once we caught the lapped cars, it was like, ‘Man, it’s either risk it for the biscuit or settle in for a second,’” Pierce said. “And I noticed how bad he was bunched up there, Nick was, behind the lappers, and I sent it in there.”

Key notes: Pierce’s first-ever triumph at Senoia was the 46th of his career on the WoO circuit and moved him back into the series points lead. … Winger led laps 1-21 before ceding the top spot to Hoffman, who slipped past on the inside and appeared headed to a second win in as many nights until faltering in lapped traffic and losing the lead to Pierce. … Hoffman also lost second to Winger and couldn’t regain the position as he settled for third after leading laps 22-35. … A key moment came on a lap-12 restart when third-running Jonathan Davenport came off the inside of turn four and pulled alongside Winger; contact resulted between the two past the flagstand, causing Davenport to spin backwards up the track and smack the outside wall. Tim McCreadie, Tyler Erb and Tristan Chamberlain were among those who clipped Davenport’s car, which sustained enough damage to end his night. … Davenport’s incident was one of four caution flags. … The first caution flew on lap nine when Michael Page slowed off turn two. … Sam Seawright relinquished a top-10 spot on lap 12 when he fell off the pace with a cut left-rear tire and Chris Ferguson slowed on the backstretch on lap 26 for the final caution. … Trey Mills overcame wall contact in qualifying to finish eighth. … The program was delayed for roughly 90 minutes after the track’s lights went out due to a blown electrical transformer as the first WoO heat race was going green. Action finally resumed at 9:40 p.m. local time after power was restored by Georgia Power and the feature finished at 11:28 p.m. … The race honored the late Billy Clanton, a former driver and car builder who was inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in 2015. His son, Shane Clanton, finished 12th.

On the move: Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., started 23rd and finished 10th.
