Bobby Pierce (32) won for the second straight season at Smoky Mountain.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead on lap 48 when leader Brandon Overton and second-running Chris Madden were eliminated in a massive wreck with Dennis Erb Jr., Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., controlled the green-white-checkered finish to capture Saturday’s 50-lap Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway. The two-time and defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion beat Nick Hoffman by 0.763 of a second for his second tour triumph of 2026 and a $20,000 payday.
Quotable: “It doesn't feel like a win, but I’ll take it,” Pierce said. “I just hope (Brandon) Overton and (Dennis) Erb are OK. That looked like a pretty hard hit from my viewpoint. I saw it happening right away and I was able to duck down to the infield and I still felt like I almost was in the wreck. Like, that’s just how big the wreck is, and spread out, and it took Madden out, too. I don’t know what happened there, but it’s great to get the win.”
Key notes: Pierce extended his streak of podium finishes on the WoO tour to seven in a row, including a previous win on Feb. 21 at Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston, Fla. It was his 44th career WoO victory. … Brandon Overton appeared headed to his first WoO victory since April of 2023 after finding the outside lane to overtake race-long pacesetter Chris Madden for the lead on lap 37, but his bid ended disastrously on lap 48 when he couldn’t avoid the spinning Dennis Erb Jr. in turn three. Overton rammed head-on into the right side of Erb’s car at virtually full speed and was clipped by the second-running Madden, who spun off the top of the corner. Sam Seawright was also involved and was towed off. … A red flag was displayed for the wreck, which left the Overton and Erb cars with especially heavy damage but both drivers escaped serious injury. ... Nick Hoffman chased Pierce following the lap-48 restart but couldn’t mount a serious challenge. … Ricky Thornton Jr. finished third after running fifth for laps 11-48. … Dale McDowell and Tim McCreadie claimed the final two spots in the top five. … Two caution flags slowed the race before the lengthy red flag: on lap 18 for debris between turns three and four and lap 34 for Drake Troutman’s turn-four spin. … Mike Marlar was ninth after winning Friday’s WoO feature at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn.
On the move: Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., started 22nd and finished eighth.
