Jason Feger celebrates his $10,000 Farmer City payday.
What won the race: Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., fended off a late-race challenge from Tyler Erb in securing a flag-to-flag victory in Friday's 40-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature at Farmer City Raceway. Feger took the checkers 0.420 of a second ahead of Erb for the $10,000 payday, his third series victory of the season and 33rd of his career.
Quotable: “The car was great all night, I think we were fast time, fastest in hot laps, won the heat and won the feature. So you can’t complain, the car was just on a rail all night long,” Feger said. “Honestly I was wanting lapped traffic cause I felt like I was so good anywhere. (I was) hoping to get some cars between me and Terbo.”
Key notes: Feger also won on the tour at Farmer City in 2016. ... Feger's team believed his engine block was cracked, but limped through the night with Stop Leak and planned an engine change before Saturday. ... He saw his near 1.7-second lead dwindle in the closing laps, as he was stuck behind the lapped car of Brenden Smith. ... Feger hung on for his third series win of the season, joining $5,000 triumphs on June 15 at Sycamore Speedway in Maple Park, Ill., and June 11 at Kankakee (Ill.) County Speedway. ... Reigning tour champ Tyler Erb, who entered with three victories in the last six races, stalked Feger in the final stages, but couldn't find a way by. ... Feger now leads Erb by three markers in the tour's overall points standings. ... Eighth-starting Brandon Sheppard was third. ... Polesitter Garrett Alberson faded to fourth. ... Daulton Wilson improved seven spots to finish seventh. ... Shannon Babb hopped the cushion while running eighth and retired on lap 29. ... Debris from Frank Heckenast Jr.'s right-rear quarterpanel damage drew the race's second and final caution on the 17th lap. Heckenast retired 10 laps later. ... Brody Smith slowed with a flat left-front tire for the opening stoppage on lap five; he finished 17th in his first Super Late Model feature. ... The main event lasted 16 minutes, with 11 starters completing 40 laps. ... Mike Harrison scratched after he was disqualified for being 5 pounds light in post-qualifying (he was quickest in his group).
On the move: Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., started 20th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, SC Online Sales, Hoker Trucking, The Big Cheese MM, Out-Pace Racing Products, CorrosionX, Multi Fire Wires, RemTek Enterprises, RLM Enterprises, Cheap Cars, FK Rod Ends, Keyser Manufacturing, Speedwerx, Go Lithium Battery, Bilstein Shocks, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil, Wehrs Machine, VP Racing Fuels, Griffin Sign Shop and Limelight Graphics.
