What won the race: Diving between race-long leader Ashton Winger and Brian Shirley entering turn three on a lap-28 restart, polesitter Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, N.C., took command of Friday's World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series feature and grabbed a $12,000 victory at River Cities Speedway. Hoffman took the checkers 1.517 seconds ahead of Dennis Erb Jr. for his second WoO triumph of the season while Winger settled for third after leading 27 laps.
Quotable: “Tonight it was just kind of a curveball for me," Hoffman said. "I wasn't sure what to expect or how good I would actually be and it just played out. I wasn't good obviously early, but I was at the end.”
Key notes: Hoffman, who started on the pole but slipped up in turn two on the opening lap to lose second to Brian Shirley, has seven career WoO victories. ... Ashton Winger, looking for his first series victory since 2022, got together with Shirley exiting turn two on the 17th lap, causing significant left-rear body damage to Winger's entry. ... Winger said he was frustrated by wide-running lapped traffic. ... Four cautions slowed the 40-lapper, the first on the 11th lap for a slowing Tyler Peterson. ... On the 28th lap, a second yellow flag dropped for a slowing Sammy Mars. ... The third caution appeared on the 35th lap when Blair Nothdurft slowed. ... The fourth and final caution appeared on the 38th lap when Dustin Strand's hood blocked his vision. ... During the first heat, a fire extinguisher appeared to fall off the Mars No. 28 machine while under a yellow flag. ... Hometown racer Brad Seng broke a driveshaft during his qualifying warmup lap. He bounced back to finish eighth in the consolation, missing a transfer by two spots. ... Saturday's event at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn., comes at a track where Hoffman won last season.
On the move: Drake Troutman of Hyndman, Pa., started 12th and finished fourth.
