Tucker Anderson (22) grabbed his first Super Late Model victory.
What won the race: Grabbing his first Super Late Model victory, Tucker Anderson of Blairsville, Ga., overtook Shawn Chastain on the 23rd lap Saturday night at Sugar Creek Raceway en route to a $5,000 Southern All Star Series victory. The fifth-starting Anderson, last month a high school graduate, led the final 18 laps in taking the checkers 3.784 seconds ahead of Jamie Oliver.
Quotable: “Yeah it took us a long time, I’ve been living at a racetrack since I was about 5 or 6 (years old) and all I’ve ever wanted was to win one of these races. I finally got to do that, so I’m pretty excited,” Anderson said. “I kept watching (Garrett Smith and Casey Roberts) and they was sliding big time and I was like ‘Golly, y’all are abusing it early,’ but just being patient. I got to second there and just rode behind (Shawn Chastain) and I just knew he was killing his stuff. Last night I was too patient and we just had to be better tonight.”
