Dylan Thornton celebrates his third Malvern East victory of the season.
What won the race: Making a third-to-first move on the inside on the third lap, Dylan Thornton of Orcutt, Calif., led the rest of Friday's Malvern Bank East Series 30-lapper for a $3,000 victory at Lafayette County Speedway. Thornton, who races out of Iowa for Ricky and Brenda Kay, took the checkers 1.153 seconds ahead of runner-up Tad Pospisil and pounded the roof of his No. 38T in victory lane.
Quotable: "I'm not the kind of guy to run around the bottom, so that was really, really hard for me. I guess I don't have it in me to do that," Thornton said. "So I guess it was a really tough race. He showed at the end there (that) they were closing in on me and I just kind of had to do everything I could to not miss the bottom because I knew the top wasn't the fastest way around at all."
Key notes: Dylan Thornton, who notched his fifth career tour victory, also won last year's stop at Lafayette County. ... Dallon Murty led the first two laps from outside the front row. ... Polesitter Jesse Sobbing eventually faded to fifth after Thornton took control. ... A single caution slowed the feature on the initial start for C.J. Horn. ... The main event lasted just shy of 10 minutes, with 11 starters completing 30 laps. ... The East Series doubleheader concludes with Saturday's $4,000-to-win show at Winneshiek Raceway in Decorah, Iowa.
On the move: Runner-up Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., started fifth; Jesse Glenz of Chippewa Falls, Wis., started sixth and finished third.
