Derek Fisher celebrates his second Ultimate HofA victory of the season.
What won the race: Polesitter Derek Fisher of Olympia, Ky., led all 30 laps Friday at Mountain Motor Speedway for a $5,000 Ultimate Heart of America Super Late Model Series victory. Fisher won his second series race of the season in taking the checkers 0.772 of a second ahead of Colten Burdette, with Brandon Fouts coming home third.
Key notes: Brandon Fouts got alongside Derek Fisher and nearly took command on the 18th lap, but traffic played into Fisher's favor. ... Fouts lost the second spot to Colten Burdette on the lap-21 restart. ... Four cautions slowed the feature, the most serious on the 26th lap when Ultimate HofA points leader Blake Creech ended up going around in turn four in a scramble, collecting Seth Daniels and Kenneth Howell. ... A lap-seven caution fell for a Lenny Bates spin. ... Another lap-21 yellow fell when Bates slowed with front-end damage after getting over the cushion (Josh Vinyard also pulled up lame in turn two during the slowdown). ... The race was co-sanctioned by the Battle of the Bluegrass DIRTcar Series, which is running an abbreviated season. … The event honored late racer Walter “Peg” Combs of Leburn, Ky., who died Nov. 14, 2011, at the age of 76. ...
