Miller edges Richards on the final lap at Potomac

BUDDS CREEK, Md. (July 23) — Jeremy Miller’s last-lap pass at Potomac Speedway gave him his first-ever Three State Flyers victory and a $5,000 payday. Miller, of Gettysburg, Pa., slipped past Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., on the backstretch for a 40-lap victory at the 3/8-mile oval’s 37th anniversary race.

“I think Josh’s car had a broken shock or something," Miller said. "He was having a little trouble keeping his car on the bottom, and if I was going to make a move that’s where it would have to come from.”

Keith Jackson of Odenton, Md., followed Miller past Richards on the final lap while 21st-starting Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, Md., and Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., rounded out the top five.

“That was a lot of fun," Miller said in victory lane. “The track got black like we expected but there was still plenty of traction and I was able to move around a little and find where the car worked best.”

Miller and Jackson started on the front row with Jackson taking the early lead. The fourth-starting Richards got into the mix early, taking command on the 12th lap in his Ernie Davis-owned No. 25, leaving Miller and Jackson to battle for second.

A lap-37 caution set the stage for the dramatic finish, and Miller capitalized exiting turn two on the final lap to make the winning pass in front of a capacity crowd.
