Camaron Marlar celebrates a five-figure payday at Big South Fork.
What won the race: Inheriting the point on a lap-33 restart after early leaders Anthony White Sr. and Cory Hedgecock were eliminated, seventh-starting Camaron Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led the rest of Saturday's caution-plagued Freedom 50 Limited Late Model feature at Big South Fork Raceway. Marlar beat Darren Goins by 2.317 seconds for an $11,800 payday, including lap-leader bonus money, his first victory of the season.
Key notes: Anthony White Sr. led the opening 30 laps from the pole, earning more than $3,000 in lap-leader bonus money, before giving way to Cory Hedgecock on the 31st lap; Hedgecock, who led laps 32-33, and White appeared to tangle under the race's sixth caution with Hedgecock retiring and White continuing for a couple more laps until being eliminated under the seventh stoppage on lap 34. The early leaders were credited with 11th and 12th. ... Camaron Marlar took control on the lap-33 restart and never looked back, earning his first win since last Sept. 13's Southern All Star Series stop at Wartburg (Tenn.) Speedway. ... Fifth-starting Darren Goins inherited the runner-up spot on the lap-34 restart but never seriously challenged Marlar over the race's final third. ... Eddie King Jr. advanced six positions to finish fourth. ... Track points leader Tim Damron was eliminated from eighth under a lap-24 caution. ... Second-starting Randy Weaver slipped to sixth by the 14th lap before he was eliminated under a lap-16 yellow; Kyle Courtney was also involved in the lap-16 stoppage, but retained his position and went on to finish third. ... The 50-lapper was slowed eight times and lasted just shy of one hour, ending shortly before 1 a.m., with eight starters completing the distance. ... Anthony White Jr., winner of last fall's $5,000 unsanctioned Limited Late Model special, scratched after hot laps.
