Bobby Pierce carries the checkers down the Tri-City frontstretch.
What won the race: Rebounding a lap-12 skirmish that sent him to the tail of the lead lap, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., stormed back to catch polesitter Chris Simpson with four laps remaining and earn $3,000 for his second victory in as many nights at Tri-City Speedway.
Key notes: Pierce also won Thursday to open Tri-City's three-race weekend. ... Fifth-place finisher Frank Heckenast Jr. advanced nine positions in the 30-lapper. ... Tim Manville was disqualified on the 12th lap after contact Pierce wheel-hopped Manville's car, sending Manville spinning in turn two. Manville retaliated under caution by trying to spin Pierce and was sent off the track. ... Brian Wolfmeier made a rare start, piloting a Mike Jacober-owned car. ... Shannon Babb and Mark Burgtorf didn't start.
On the move: Rusty Schlenk of McClure, Ohio, started 16th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce’s Rocket Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine with sponsorship from Hoker Trucking, Allgayer Inc., Premier Waste Services, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing, Berger’s Marina, Digital Copy Systems, First Spear, Quality Paint & Body and Advanced Suspension.
Who to watch: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., who chases his ninth win in Tri-City’s special event.
