What won the race: Gaining momentum from a lap-21 restart, Steve Mathis Jr. of Plant City, Fla., overtook Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, Fla., maintaining his lead through late-race cautions to score a $2,000 Crate Late Model victory in East Bay Raceway Park's Winternationals opener.
Key notes: Mathis won following his second-year disqualification from Dec. 29's $5,400-to-win Dalton Myers 40 at East Bay when his tires failed lab tests. ... The race saw multiple lead changes, with lap leaders including Walker Arthur, Kenny Monahan, Travis Varnadore and Devin Dixon. ... The Winternationals Crate action continues Friday with a $2,500-to-win event, concluding Saturday with a $3,000-to-win program.
