What won the race: Polesitter Garrett Shurling of Ellabell, Ga., topped Jordan Feider of Eden, Ga., to win the opening race of Saturday's NeSmith doubleheader at Oglethorpe Raceway Park. Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., finished third in the 30-lapper. Shurling earned $2,000 for the victory.
Quotable: "We had a great car. We've been coming to the Showdown for a long time and been up front, sitting on poles, running real fast for many, many years," Shurling said. "Always just something seems to happened, so it's good to finally break the ice here at the Showdown at Savannah."
Key notes: It was Shurling's first NeSmith victory of the season. ... The race was held Saturday afternoon after inclement weather postponed Friday's event. ... NeSmith competitors had another full program Saturday evening. ... The NeSmith series visited OSP for the first time this season.
Winner's sponsors: Shurling's Swartz Race Car has a Koury Racing Engine and sponsorship from Badger Rental Services, Brad Durham Exceptional Dentistry, Cagle Racing Automotive, Jake Patrick & Son Plumbing, Action Insulation and Fox Shocks by Accu-Force.
