With his father arriving, too, Bobby Pierce emerges in victory lane.
What won the race: Following a lap-20 caution, third-running Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., sliced passed Shannon Babb for second and then won a brief battle with pacesetter Brian Shirley to take command for a $5,000 victory in a co-sanctioned event with the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series and Sunoco American Late Model Series at Farmer City Raceway.
Key notes: Shirley took the lead at the drop of the green and held it for over half of the 35-lapper, while Pierce fell back to third early. ... Pierce pulled away over the final laps en route to his 10th win of 2015. ... Pierce entered fresh off a second-place finisher in Eldora Speedway's World 100 and also won twice on Labor Day weekend at Federated Raceway at I-55 and Spoon River Speedway. ... The race marked Pierce's second career victory with the Corn Belt Clash and 12th on the ALMS tour. ... With his seventh-place finish, McKay Wenger clinched Farmer City's UMP Late Model championship. ... The event was originally scheduled for Sept. 4, but rains reset it for Thursday. ... The race served as the season finale for the Corn Belt Clash, while ALMS competitors made their final visit to Illinois this season.
