Fastrak Racing SeriesEAST SMETHPORT, Pa. (June 16) — Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., claimed a $1,200 victory in Saturday night’s Fastrak Racing Northeast Touring Series event at McKean County Raceway, ending reining series champion Max Blair’s four-race win streak on the Crate Late Model tour.
The 15-year-old Montgomery led the entire distance of the 25-lap race, withstanding early challenges by Bobby Rohrer and John Over then a final charge by Mike Pegher, Jr. for his second career Tour win.
"I'm worn out,” Montgomery said in victory lane. "The track was a little bumpy, but it was fast and good. That was a great race.”
Pegher of Wexford, Pa., settled for the runner-up finish while Blair of Centerville, Pa., was third in the final rundown.
Adam Sixt of Sardinia, N.Y., was fourth for his first career top five in three years of periodic competition on the series while Shane Weaver of Marion Center, Pa., posted his career-best finish in rounding out the top five.
Over of Uniontown, Pa., crossed the finish line third for appeared to be his best touring series finish, but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection.
The victory was Montgomery’s first of the season and second of his career. He became the tour’s youngest winner last season when he won at Sharon Speedway on September 17 at the age of 14.
