LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (July 19) — Winning his first series race in nearly four years, Jerry Bowersock of Wapakoneta, Ohio, picked up $3,000 for capturing the Sunoco American Late Model Series feature at the newly rebuilt Lawrenceburg Speedway. The 1999 series champion started outside the front row and led all 30 laps in an attrition-heavy event for his first series victory since Aug. 6, 2004, at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. | Slideshow

"That's the first Sunoco race I've won in a while, so it was good to get back in there," Bowersock said, glad he wasn't back in the pack of a lengthy race that left several cars tattered. "There was a lot of carnage going on behind me. I'm glad I didn't really have to try and pass anybody."

Rusty Seaver of Stanton, Mich., finished second followed by Tim Prince of Heltonville, Ind., Patrick Sheltra of Indiantown, Fla., and Barry Doss of Sardinia, Ohio, the previous night's series winner at Moler Raceway Park on the other side of Cincinnati. Polesitter and hometown driver Jason Jameson ended up 12th and Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., was seventh after giving up a frontrunning spot to replace a flat right rear tire.

Joe Janowski and Troy Catterene were among drivers involved in a first-lap accident that eliminated several cars. Engine problems eliminated Steve Barnett on the first lap.

Bowersock's only real problem came when he got too high in the turns late, but he was able to reel his car in. "I got up over the cushion once with a couple of laps to go and I thought I was going to toss it out the window," he said.

The night's preliminaries were marred when Shawn Negangard's No. 16 flipped violently in turns three and four while he was running third in a heat race. The Osgood, Ind., driver escaped the wreck uninjured.
