Covert ends season-long Three State Flyers skid

CENTRAL CITY, Pa. (Aug. 3) — Three-time and defending series champion Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., returned to form on the Three State Flyers tour Friday night at Thunder Valley Raceway, earning a $3,000 victory in the half-mile oval’s fourth annual Laurel Highlands Classic.

Covert won from the pole to earn his first series victory of the season, topping David Williams of Charlotte Hall, Md., and Greg Fetters of Everett, Pa., at the finish. Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, Pa., was fourth with series points leader Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, Pa., rounding out the top five.

Notes: Covert’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Hershey Racing Engine with sponsorship from Pre-Mach Inc., Red Wing Shoes, Lias Tire and Baker Carburetion. … Covert leads the fourth-year tour’s all-time wins list with 15 series victories. … The victory is Covert’s fifth overall this season. … Justin Kann of Hesston, Pa., won the first of three heat races, but scratched from the remainder of the event after suffering engine issues just after his crossing the finish for his heat victory. … The Three State Flyers return to action Sunday with a $5,100-to-win event at Hesston (Pa.) Speedway.
