HIBBING, Minn. (Sept. 1) — Going from third to first midway through the 40-lapper, Justin Fegers of Mound, Minn., won Saturday's season finale on the WISSOTA Challenge Series. The third-starting Fegers earned $3,000 for a victory on the opening night of the 34th Labor Day Shootout.

Rick Hanestad of Boyceville, Wis., finished second followed by hometown driver Kyle Peterlin. Series champion John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Minn., and provisional starter Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., rounded out the top five finishers.

Fegers was running third behind Hanestad and Tom Waseleski Jr. in the first half of the race, but when the frontrunners got bogged down in lapped traffic, Fegers made his move on lap 21 to slip by Waseleski and Hanestad both.

Fegers led the rest of the way, fighting off a challenge from Peterlin on a restart before Hanestad regained the second spot.
