Travis Stemler celebrates his first Ethanol Tour victory.
What won the race: Travis Stemler of Ionia, Mich., overtook fellow front-row starter Brandon Thirlby on the fourth lap and led the rest of the way to top an eight-car American Ethanol Late Model Tour at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Stemler fought off Rusty Schlenk for his first series victory, earning $4,000 in becoming the fourth first-time series winner in four 2019 events.
Quotable: "This car is just such a good car, I can't think Scott and Pam Phillips enough," Stemler said in victory lane. "This one took a little tumble and she's still a good car. Just hat's off to Rocket and them building a great chassis. It's been an interesting day, but this makes it all worthwhile."
Key notes: Stemler's victory came just 10 days after a harrowing rollover accident at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park in his primary car. ... The feature was slowed by a two cautions: Brett Miller had a lap-18 flat and Matt Shipley looped his car in turn four on lap 24. ... Rich Bell retired after a single lap. ... With eight entries, officials elected to line up the feature based on points. ... Action was delayed by an evening storm. ... Scott James of Bright, Ind., won Saturday's event at Brownstown Speedway. ... Gas City hosted its first Ethanol Tour race and first Late Model event in more than 10 years.
Winner's sponsors: Stemler's Malcuit-powered Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Scott's Quik Stop, McAllisters CAT Rentals, Cusack Collision, Espira, The Twisted Monkey, Gilboe’s Lock and Safe, Dirt Car Lifts, k1 Race Gear, Integra Racing Shocks, Fisk Trucking and Brinn Transmission.
