What won the race: Second-starting Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Miss., utilized a lap-26 restart to take the lead and paced the final 14 laps to earn his second straight Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series victory. Saturday's Jackson Motor Speedway paid $3,000 and followed Friday’s victory in Hattiesburg.
Quotable: "Really great track, I know all the guys work real hard to give us a good race track and it definitely paid off. I thought it was going to be around the bottom at the beginning of the race and that's kinda what we look for, but I guess I was able to find just a little bit there on the top, to get by Michael on that last restart. He raced me clean the last two nights we've been racing up here together, just thank you all. I just really wasn't any good on the bottom there and Michael got out ahead of me. I would just hang so bad off two over there, I knew I couldn't keep doing that or I might fall back to third or fourth. Absolutely, it was a great race".
Key notes: This is the second consecutive series victory for Hughes, after winning the opening leg of a weekend doubleheader at Hattiesburg Speedway on Friday. ... Fellow Meridian, Chad Thrash, finished in the runner-up position, 0.535 seconds behind Hughes. ... Winner of the most-recent event at Jackson on July 20, 2019, polesitter Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, Miss., finished third after leading the first 25 laps. ... Saturday's MSCCS feature, the first at Jackson since 2019, was slowed by only one caution flag and lasted 16 minutes, with the top-12 finishers completing all 40 laps. … The tour returns to Jackson on July 31.
On the move: Bubba Mullins of West Monroe, La., started 11th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Hughes drives a Capital Race Car with a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsorship from Hughes Machine Shop, Bill and Denise Langston, B&K Racing, MD Metals, PRP Suspension, BJ’s Tire & Services Center, Permanent Exterior Solutions, Extreme Graphics by J-Rod, 100 Service Center, Brown’s Creek Hunting Club, Jackson Industries, Link Construction, Tri State Rock and Rails, The Bearded Sportsman and Brown Engineering Race Engines.
