What won the race: Rallying after a lap-33 flat tire, sixth-row starter Brandon Williams of Crossville, Tenn., came out on top Sunday at Wythe Raceway for a career-richest $10,019 victory on the American Crate All-Star Series. Williams eight laps, including the last two, in taking the checkers ahead of polesitter Carson Ferguson, who led most of the way at the half-mile oval but settled for second.
Key notes: Williams pitted on lap 33 after a flat tire while running fifth; the team's jackhandle broke and he was nearly a half-track behind when he returned, but further cautions help him work back into contention. ... Carson Ferguson led the first 30 laps before Matt Long (31-32, 34-40), Cory Hedgecock (33) and then Williams (41-46) took turns out front. ... Ferguson went back to the lead on laps 47-48 before Williams led the final two laps. ... Willliams won his second career touring victory; his first came Jan. 15, 2017, in on the Durrence Layne Winter Series. ... Williams was a month removed non-series Crate event paying $3,000 at his hometown track. ... Third-finishing Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., made his debut in the Billy Hicks-owned No. 79. ... The 50-lapper lasted nearly 90 minutes and required an unscheduled mid-race fuel stop. ... Rain hit Saturday night and forced the conclusion of the American Crate All-Stars event to Sunday afternoon. ... Jesse Lowe of Crossville, Tenn., who won the three previous features on the first-year tour, didn't enter the event.
