What won the race: Starting from outside the front row, Matt Cooper of McKenzie, Tenn., won his third straight All Star Racing Series main event, topping two-time winner Ashley Newman for a $2,000 payday at Lexington 104 Speedway on Memorial Day.
Key notes: During the post-race weigh-in, the second- and third-place cars of Ashley Newman and Kyle Beard failed to make the requited minimum weight, but after weighing a second time, series officials noticed a 70-pound fluctuation in weight and neither were disqualified. Series officials said they “questioned the integrity of the scales” and later discovered the scales had shifted approximately 2 inches off their base. … The 25-lap feature was slowed by one caution. ... Matt Cooper's victory followed Saturday's $2,000 triumph in the Fairgrounds DIRTcar Clash at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville (Tenn.). ... Cooper’s previous wins this season came March 29 at Lexington 104 and April 27 at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Tenn. … The series announced a change in purse structure moving forward, with the winner’s purse going from $2,000-to-win to $1,500-to-win and the start money increasing from $200 to $300. … The series returns to Lexington 104 on July 4 and Aug. 9.
