Hometown driver Tyler Sanders led all the way in Cochran, Ga.
What won the race: Defending his home turf, fourth-starting Tyler Sanders of Cochran, Ga., moved around front row starters Jimmy Thomas and Ashton Winger in the first two laps of Saturday’s 50-lap Durrence Layne Winter Shootout finale at Cochran Motor Speedway and led the rest of the way for a $3,000 payday. Sanders pulled away following a caution with nine laps remaining to outrun Winger and third-starting Jimmy Elliott.
Quotable: “Man this is excellent, as I never expected to win it because this weekend was my first time in a Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model,” winner Tyler Sanders. “My crew signaled to me that somebody was right on me late in the race, and I didn’t know who it was. I was just trying to take it easy, so I quit trying to save tires and went for it.”
Key notes: The race wrapped up this year’s Durrence Layne Winter Shootout miniseries. … Sanders earned $2,000 on Jan. 12 in a 602 Crate Late Model race at Cochran. ... Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., won Friday's $2,000 opener. Thomas finished 11th Saturday after running among the top five for most of the race. … Last year's DLWS finale winner Wil Herrington of Cochran finished 17th. ... Reigning track champ Corey Dunn finished 18th. … Riley Hickman managed just 20 laps and was credited with 19th.
On the move: Pearson Lee Williams of Dublin, Ga., started 14th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Sanders drives a Capital Race Car with sponsorship from Wynn Land Development and H.C. Rowland Trucking.
