ALMA, Ohio (Nov. 2) — Chris Garnes of Evans, W.Va., earned $2,222 on Saturday at Atomic Speedway’s season finale, winning the fifth annual Dan Reno Memorial.

Garnes briefly lost the lead to Wayne Chinn of Bradford, Ohio, on the 17th of 25 laps, but a caution negated Chinn’s move and restored Garnes to a lead he wouldn’t give up again. The father-and-son duo of Tim and Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., finished second and third with home-state drivers Chad Smith of Miamisburg and Andy Bond of Coolville rounding out the top five. | Slideshow

The 25-lapper was slowed by four cautions, none for serious incidents. Chinn’s night ended when his car went up in smoke while running second with four laps remaining.

Notes: Garnes drives a No. 42 Swartz Race Car sponsored by GPS and Tri-County Builders. … He notched his 14th overall victory of the season. … Fast qualifier Jackie Boggs retired with terminal issues early in the first heat. ... R.J. Conley was scheduled to appear in the first heat but scratched for the night with a broken rear end. ... Late Model competitors had the option to run topless. ... Hot laps were pushed back about 45 minutes because of a highway accident near the track. … The event drew more than 120 race cars overall, including nearly 50 modifieds.
