Farley Speedway

Points leader bags Deery victory at Farley

May 22, 2013, 9:23 am
From series reports

FARLEY, Iowa (May 21) — The fourth time was a charm Tuesday night for Brian Harris of Davenport, Iowa. After finishing third in each of the first three Deery Brothers Summer Series events of the season, Harris led the last half of a 50-lap feature for IMCA Late Models at Farley Speedway that ran green to checkered.

The victory, the career sixth for Harris, paid $3,000 to the tour point leader. Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, and Nick Marolf of Moscow, Iowa, swapped the lead throughout the first half of the race and ran side-by-side for much of the late going before Kay got the edge for second.

Hard charger Jeff Aikey of Waterloo, Iowa, moved up 11 positions from his spot on the original grid for fourth. Joel Callahan of Dubuque, Iowa, completed the top five.

Curt Martin drew the pole and led the opening circuit before giving way to the third-starting Marolf. Kay began his initial stint at the point on lap nine, was briefly out of first on lap 14, then kept a tenuous lead until lap 24.

Harris entered the fray at that point, taking over up front on the 25th circuit. He’d run three wide with Kay and Marolf and use multiple lines to negotiate lapped traffic before pulling out to a five-length margin of victory.

Notes: Harris drives a Lynn and Karen Richard-owned No. 15r sponsored by Richard Realty & Auction, Shottenkirk Automotive Group, Roehlk Construction, Trump Trucks, Floyd’s Waste Disposal Services and Great River Spine Clinic. ... Ray Guss Jr. brought a streak of two straight wins to Farley and finished ninth. ... Winner of the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels feature qualifier drawing was Callahan. ... Drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Scott Reichers, Jon Poll, Duane Christisen, Curt Marks and Larry Harris. ... The fifth of 18 dates on the 2013 tour schedule is the traditional Memorial Day show at Boone Speedway on Monday, May 27. ... Pit gates and the grandstand open at 2 p.m., hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m.
