Van Wormer wins Quad City's rain-halted race

EAST MOLINE, Ill. (Sept. 30) — Jeep Van Wormer of Pinconning, Mich., took the lead from Matt Miller 15 laps before the rains came to win the second annual Fall Harvest at Quad City Raceway. Van Wormer earned $12,000 for the United Midwestern Promoters-sanctioned 75-lapper, which was shortened 53 laps by inclement weather. | Slideshow
"This is huge for us, not only to get the $12,000, but to get a win against the caliber of guys that were here is big," Van Wormer said. "There may have only been 27 cars here, but it was a good field, so that makes it that much better."
Miller was in control midway thrugh the race, but he was held up by a lapped car and Van Wormer slid past on the low side on lap 38 "We were getting through (turns) three and four a little better than him, so we just waited, and saw an opening, and I was able to slide by him, and really get away from there," Van Wormer said. "The lapped traffic helped, but I think we did have a little better car than him."
Miller, an Ohio racer driving for Illinois-based Moring Motorsports, settled for second while another Ohio driver, Wayne Chinn, was third. Darren Miller and overall UMP points leader Dennis Erb Jr. rounded out the top five.
