ATTICA, Ohio (March 27) — In Ohio's first Late Model race of the season, Matt Miller of Waterville, Ohio, rallied at Attica Raceway Park to capture the 25-lap regular-season opener and earn $1,000 on a night when 32 Late Model teams battled at the quarter-mile oval. | March weekly results

Miller overtook fellow Ohio driver Wayne Chinn of Bradford on the 16th lap and led the rest of the way at the UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned track.

"I kind of set Wayne up," said Miller, who started outside the fifth row en route to his third career Attica victory. "He was racing in my line and I couldn't get around him. So, I stuck my nose under him on the bottom and he drove down there on that restart to block and that opened up my groove."

Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ind., who started alongside Miller on the fifth row, finished second with the fifth-starting Chinn third. Wayne Maffett Jr. of Mansfield, Ohio, who started outside the front row and led the first 11 laps, finished fourth while polesitter Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio, rounded out the top five.

The main event got off to a shaky start with three yellows before a lap could be completed. Maffett took control through the early stages before Chinn moved up to challenge, and the Battle of Waynes produced a pair of swapped slide jobs for the lead on laps 11-12.

Chinn took control on the 12th lap as Maffett slipped to fourth behind Miller and Casebolt. A lap later, Casebolt would take second, but Miller would return the favor on lap 15. Following a pair of cautions, Chinn and Miller raced side-by-side — often making slight contact — the next two circuits. On the next caution, Chinn went low to block Miller in turn one on the restart and Miller drove by on the outside to take the lead. Miller won by eighth lengths.
