Skylar Marlar heads to his first Southern All Star victory.
What won the race: Skylar Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., outran older brother Mike for a $4,000 payday and his first career Southern All Star Series victory at Tennessee National Raceway. The younger Marlar turned back an early challenge from Josh Putnam in leading every lap.
Key notes: Putnam briefly edged ahead of Skylar Marlar, who quickly regained the point. ... Putnam fell from contention after tangling with Mike Marlar on a restart. ... Mississippi invader Brian Rickman finished third. ... The Southern All Stars made their first appearance of 2015 at Hohenwald. ... Todd Morrow of Chattanooga, Tenn., winner of last year's SAS event at Tennessee National, finished 12th.
On the move: Runner-up Mike Marlar started seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar drove the PPM Chassis house car with a Clements Racing Engine and sponsorship from Martco, Metal Mac Sales and Marlar Auto Mart.
Points chase: Two-time champion Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., entered the race with 400 points to lead the series, but he did not enter, instead competing in the Show-Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway. Through May 23, Riley Hickman has 444 points to lead Weaver (400).
