What won the race: McKay Wenger of Fairbury, Ill., overtook Justin Reed on the 22nd lap of the Scottie 42 at Quincy Raceway and cruised the final laps for a $2,000 victory on the Midwest Big 10 Series. Wenger, the UMP DIRTcar weekly points leader, scored his second victory of the weekend after a home-track triumph Saturday night at Fairbury American Legion Speedway
Quotable: "The engine was hot, and I kept watching the gauges ... but I had the opportunity to win the biggest Late Model race of my life — and I just kept my foot on it," Wenger told Steve Eighinger of the Herald-Whig. "This was special."
Key notes: Wenger won his second straight race in a new Pierce Platinum Race Car and his fourth race of 2016 overall. ... Wenger plans to run Quincy each Sunday in 2016 while chasing the UMP DIRTcar title. ... Eight drivers completed 42 laps. ... Jason Perry was running sixth when he was part of a restart tangle on lap 22. ... Clint Kirkham and Dewayne Kiefer tangled for a lap-22 yellow. ... An infield tire rolled onto the backstretch to draw a lap-three yellow. ... Michael Kloos retired on the sixth lap. ... The third annual Scottie 42 paid tribute to the track founder, Albert Scott.
On the move: Hometown driver Mark Burgtorf rallied from 11th to finish second, two seconds behind the winner.
Winner's sponsors: Wenger's Pierce Race Car is sponsored by Central Illinois Buildings and Creative Kitchens & Bath.
Points chase: Brian Diveley of Springfield, Ill., expanded his points leader over Chad Zobrist.
