Chad Thrash (1c) outran Clay Fisher (99) for a Columbus victory.
What won the race: Third-starting Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., raced to his first Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series victory in more than a year Saturday at Columbus Speedway. Thrash, who pocketed $2,500, took the lead for good on the 40th of 50 laps while dueling runner-up Clay Fisher and was among four leaders in a race with seven official lead changes.
Quotable: "I crowded (Fisher) a little bit getting into turn one, one time and we got together, but that was just nature of the beast, in trying to win a race," Thrash said. "It was the first race I have won all year and maybe after the way we ran tonight, the rest of this season will go like it did last year."
Key notes: Thrash's previous MSCCS victory came July 12, 2014. ... Lap leaders were Bub McCool (1-8; 25-29), Ronny Lee Hollingsworth (19-24), Clay Fisher (32-34; 39) and Thrash (30-31; 35-38; 40-50). ... Hollingsworth lowered the track record in qualifying; he earned $200 from Ace Portable Buildings and Carports for setting fast time. ... Henry Cooper scratched from the feature.
On the move: Brett White started 11th and finished fifth.
