Jackie Boggs tunes up at Lake Cumberland before Saturday's victory.
What won the race: Fourth-starting Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Ky., overtook polesitter Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., and beat Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., to the checkers for a $5,000 Schaeffer Oil Iron-Man Series victory in Lake Cumberland Speedway's Finn Watson Memorial.
Quotable: "You gotta have a really good race car to get around this little racetrack (fast)," Boggs said. "It'll make a racer out of you, I promise you that. It's a hard little raetrack to get around, but I love it."
Key notes: Boggs scored his second Iron-Man victory of the season. He was the winner of the Oct. 7 event at 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ky. … Boggs became the tour’s first repeat winner on the 2017 schedule. ... Victor Lee of Danville, Ky., lowered the track record in time trials. He did not start the feature. … Third-place finisher Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., piloted a C.J. Rayburn-owned car instead of his familiar No. 157. … A yellow flag waved on the initial start for a pileup involving Michael Chilton, Dakotah Knuckles, Brian Smith, Steve Smith, Greg Johnson and others. The race was brought to a complete restart. … Tyler Carpenter slowed off the pace to draw a caution on the fifth lap. … A red flag fell on the ensuing restart when Steve Smith rolled his No. 3 in turn three. He climbed from the car apparently uninjured. … A yellow flag waved just shy of the halfway mark when second-running Kent Robinson made contact with the lapped car of Jeff Neubert, with the pair spinning to a stop on the backstretch. ... Saturday's program marked the final race of the season for Lake Cumberland, which Brandon Hardgrove reopened in 2017 after being closed in recent years.
On the move: Skylar Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., advanced from the 16th starting spot to finish fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Boggs drives a Swartz Race Car is sponsored by Central Star Drilling, McCoy Brothers Logging, Impact Race Gear, Reno & Sons Lawn Car and Quest Energy.
