A few lessons for cycling

Sometimes the world of Dirt Late Model racing can teach other sports a thing or two, and Monday I saw a prime example. “Lance Armstrong Stripped of Tour de France Titles” was the news everywhere I looked on the Internet (with the exception of DirtonDirt.com, of course). There were reports that Armstrong was no longer a seven-time champion of the world’s biggest bicycle race after he allegedly used performance enhancing drugs.

Heard it on the radio

In going through the old notepads from races gone by, it's common to see dates, tracks, names and other indicators that spark memories. In surveying my own version of shorthand, I can tell where passes were made, what drivers were closing and who brought out cautions — the normal stuff you might expect.

Remembering Billy Carroll

It was Monday morning following the Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial and I was plenty tired. Getting back into the grind of a 6 a.m. departure to work was a little tough after Saturday's late race at Richmond Raceway, which kept me from getting to sleep until 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

It was the first time in several years that I’d had such a late evening at the races, but as I texted my buddy Michael “Spanky” Despain later in the day: “While I’m not used to it, it does feel strangely MORE
